anxiety and alcohol

Everyone at some stage is affected by anxiety; it is a normal response when being put in a stressful or dangerous situation and can be triggered by virtually any situation as everybody reacts differently to various situations and circumstances such as fear of the dentist, fear of flying, dealing with phobias, social interaction, the list is endless.

Many of the symptoms are frightening, however, understanding that they are not life threatening can help. When anxiety becomes so intense that it interferes with ones daily life, then it becomes a problem.

Excessive use of alcohol is often closely related to anxiety problems, and frequently a chicken and egg situation emerges with someone drinking because they are anxious, but the alcohol will increase the anxiety and therefore the person will increase their alcohol intake and thus begins a downward spiral.
