Alcohol and drug abuse impacts on health and safety as well as productivity levels. The challenge is for employers to identify the problems and to have the subject of alcohol and drugs firmly placed in the company’s Health & Safety Policy. In many cases, employees do not understand or acknowledge they have an alcohol or drug abuse problem. All employers have a legal requirement to ensure the health and safety of their employees, as laid out in the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

Fresh Knowledge works with clients to establish alcohol and drug policies and helps develop a good working practice for related issues. Once a policy has been put in to place, the process involves workshops, lectures and seminars on alcohol and drug awareness and prevention, all specifically developed to help management and employees understand and recognise the problems that can manifest through misuse and learn how to address them.

The policy will be implemented to protect the company and staff from litigation, as well as minimising accidents, ill health, absenteeism and possible insurance claims.
