Business and booze don’t mix
Drinking costs the British economy £6.4 billion every year and 17 million working days are lost annually due to alcohol-related absenteeism.
In light of this, Yorkshire-based alcohol management consultancy, Fresh Knowledge has launched a unique corporate support service to assist local firms and businesses to deal with alcohol misuse.
According to Managing Director of Fresh Knowledge, Sue Stone, businesses are increasingly aware of the impact of alcohol on the workplace. “Alcohol misuse affects overall productivity, it can damage relationships with colleagues and clients and it can lead to work-related accidents.”
“Companies that employ high net worth individuals, such as law firms and financial services companies are particularly at risk. The combination of a high pressured environment and a culture where client liaison often takes place over a drink can lead to alcohol misuse,” said Stone.
She added that, in terms of Health and Safety legislation, firms have a responsibility to design and implement policies to prevent and address alcohol related problems.
Based on an initial interview and assessment of a client’s business, Fresh Knowledge tailors an appropriate package of initiatives for each situation. This ranges from designing and implementing alcohol policies, to providing ongoing training and support aimed at preventing and addressing alcohol misuse in the workplace.
