self esteem

What is self-esteem? Some feel it means confidence, but there are a number of people who appear confident but have poor self-esteem, therefore confidence and self-esteem are not quite the same thing.

The word self-esteem comes from a Latin word meaning, “to estimate”; therefore self-esteem means how you estimate yourself. Do you appreciate yourself and your personal worth?

Self-Esteem is often created from incidences and situations that happened many years ago and how we reacted creates how we now feel about ourselves.

Having positive attitudes, valuing ourselves and feeling competent of our abilities, all aid good attitudes to feeling good about ourselves. Self-esteem builds as a child and follows us throughout our lives. It needs constant nurturing as it effects so many decisions that we make. It is essential to have a belief in oneself!
